Setting Up Required Email Consent

You can put email preferences in your attenders’ hands. When you enable this feature, a checkbox will appear during account creation, allowing people to opt in to future email communications from your church.

Should you use this feature?

We know your ministry works hard to build strong connections with your attenders. But because of new privacy laws in some countries, people may need to give clear permission before you can collect and use their personal information, like their email address.

To help with this, the Church Online Platform lets you choose how you want to handle consent based on what’s right for your church and any legal guidance you’ve received. If you’re not sure which option to pick, we recommend requiring consent from everyone just to be safe.

Please note that doing so may reduce the number of email addresses collected during account sign-ups. You can adjust this setting at a future date, which will only affect new account signups.
  1. Go to Admin > Setup.
  2. Click on Church Info.
  3. Scroll toward the bottom of the page.
  4. Select the audience you want to set up required email consent:
    1. No One: No one will see an option to opt in to receive emails from your church during sign-up.
    2. People in the EU Only: Only users located in the European Union will see an “opt in to email” checkbox when they create an account.
    3. Everyone: All users will see an “opt in to email” checkbox during account sign-up, no matter where they’re located.
  5. Click Save.
